Microsoft Dynamics GP Statement of Direction

2016 statement of direction.pdf

A key benefit of the 2016 release is the ability to use all modules and functions with any web browser, from any location and device. Users will have the same capabilities from the Windows or Mac Desktop, Ipad, Surface, Samsung or other tablet or even phone with no need for addins like Silverlight.

New all in one document viewers for applications like sales and customer service will reduce the need to move from window to window when searching for information.

Microsoft Dynamics GP 2016 Roadmap

A question frequently asked is "Will Microsoft continue to support new development for Dynamics GP?"

Microsoft updated its Dynamics GP roadmap through 2016 recently, and the plans for an HTML5 web interface appear to remain on track for the GP 2016 product release in the first half of 2016.

New details come from .NET and Dynamics GP developer Tim Wappat in a new blog post after sitting in on a presentation about GP 2016 given by Microsoft managers at the m-hance Dynamic Business Conference in London.

He also shares an updated GP roadmap that takes the product through calendar year 2016 with the release GP 2016 R2.

We've reached out to Microsoft for confirmation on the roadmap that was shared, as well as the May 2016 release date target and other details presented to this group.

Wappat's report supports much of what we learned in June about the GP team's plans for its new HTML5 web client. For example, Microsoft is testing the new web client for compatibility with ISV solutions, which, from what Wappat saw, may even "look better than in standard GP client".

The presenter, Microsoft principal engineering manager Gary Tronson, also reiterated what product marketing manager Pam Misialek told us earlier - that there is no reason to wait to for the HTML5 client - user interfaces that work in GP 2015 R2 should upgrade smoothly. And Microsoft still appears to be working against the plan to release the new web client as a fully functional interface, as opposed to the Silverlight interface, which was released in stages.

Wappat also noted a range of other enhancements targeted for 2016. That list, as shared by Microsoft, was not presented as a promise or commitment. Among the planned enhancements in GP 2016, there will be more "All in One" document viewers for inventory, sales, and project expenses, and more enhancement to the generally well received Workflow 2.0 framework. The HTML client will also apparently get a new management framework.
